St John’s can form part of a planned Southern Islands outing with your dog. Singapore Island Cruise expressly accepts one or two pets on its service, with control and leash conditions; check your chosen sailing before paying. Its current main-site notice says the St John’s main jetty is closed for enhancement and landings use Lazarus. Do not rely on an older description promising a direct stop at St John’s jetty. The islands are connected by a causeway, but allow for your dog’s comfort, the weather and your return sailing rather than treating an online walking time as a guarantee. Bring supplies, avoid wildlife and respect restricted premises. Ferry admission does not include access to the marine laboratory or an overnight lodge.

There is not much to do here, but it is very well maintained and it is a nice destination to combine with the nearby Lazarus island (connected by a short causeway). The island's pier (St John's Island Jetty) is currently (temporarily?) closed, and the one at Lazarus island is used instead (not far - around 10-15 min walk). There are pretty much no facilities here. It was almost entirely empty on a Sunday. Kudos to SLA for keeping everything neat and well-signposted.
Said to be the only actual swimmable beach suitable for kids/enjoyment. The $15 fee for the ferry is a deal and the whole vibe of St. John's & Lazarus beach was one of privacy, serenity and green landscapes.
It’s a beautiful little island, took us about 40 mins to walk the whole way, but there’s really not much to do on it. There are no places to get food and water so highly recommend bringing your own before coming here.
