A quick mood check

Who’s coming
to Halloween?

All personalities welcome. Especially the one who wants to go home early.

Choose a mood above, or explore the events and our at-home ideas. You know your dog best.

The sensible bit

A little less fright.
A lot more all right.

Keep these six things in mind, then get back to having a good night together.

Keep the sweets for humans

Chocolate and xylitol-sweetened sweets can poison dogs. Put sweets, wrappers and party bags in a closed cupboard, away from curious noses.

Let your dog veto the outfit

Skip masks, headpieces and dangling pieces. Clothing must allow easy movement, breathing and sight. Stay beside them while dressed; take it off if they freeze, pant, struggle or try to escape.

Give the doorbell a plan

Set up a comfortable room away from visitors, with familiar bedding and water. Secure doors and gates before answering. Check that their ID tag and microchip contact details are current.

Decorate above nose height

Keep fake cobwebs, glow sticks, wires and small decorations out of reach. Use battery lights instead of candles, and keep batteries safely enclosed. Clear away mouldy pumpkins.

Leave room for an early exit

Crowds, masks and sudden noises can overwhelm a dog. Choose a short visit, offer distance and leave if they are uncomfortable. A lead, water and a familiar way home belong in the plan.

Remember the Singapore weather

Keep any outfit light and easy to remove. Check heat, rain and haze before leaving, take water breaks and choose a cooler time. Your dog can enjoy Halloween in their own fur.

The sofa club

Staying in?
Excellent.

Your dog. Your people. Absolutely no queue for the loo. Three very good reasons to call it a night in.

The sniff-or-treat trail

Hide a few pieces of their usual kibble in easy spots around one room. Let your dog watch the first hide, then invite them to find it. No sweets, wrappers or spooky surprises required.

Teach a party trick

Practise a familiar paw, touch or sit for a minute or two, then reward with a little of their usual food. Let the humans do the applauding and the dog decide when the show ends.

Make a pumpkin portrait

Sit beside a pumpkin or a simple paper backdrop for one quick photo. Keep props out of chewing range, skip flash and let your dog wander off whenever they want. A costume is optional.

Let the human do the dressing up.

Your dog can be the detective while you play the mysterious suspect. Or the royal guest while you become the butler. Their usual harness and a very serious expression are plenty.

Stick this by the door

Lead? Water?
Very good dog?

Tick off what you have packed. Then give yourself permission to come home early.

Taking your dog to Sentosa? Pets cannot travel on the Sentosa Express. Check Sentosa's event and transport guidance, or plan a pet taxi.
